Exlporing the Fort
From East Coast of Mexico (near Cancun) in Dry Tortugas, United States on Feb 22 '07

After an overnight passage from Cayo Costa (near Boca Grande, FL) we entered Dry tortugas, a tired and hungry crew! It was beautiful though and after a short rest we went ashore to Garden Keyto explore the fort. There are campsites for people to stay overnight and inside Fort Jefferson rangers live and keep the park in immaculate shape. The fort has three levels and from the top you can see all the way to the other two islands in the Dry Tortugas. One of the islands is a bird sanctuary called Bush Key and the other is called Loggerhead Key with a big lighthouse on it. We stayed and explored until the wind was right to make our 3 day passage across the Gulf of Mexico to Isle Mujeres, Mexico.
