Finding my way in Jackson

I arrived in Jackson about 9PM with the temperature being about 0 Celsius. I had no map of Jackson only the address of Michael’s host family’s house. Fortunately I found WAL-MART, (it was a super WAL-MART, which is in size about 3 Bunning’s Warehouses stuck together, so it was very hard to miss)

The people there were very helpful in giving me directions, and even wrote them down for me. By that stage I phoned Michael and he told me to meet him at the local Shopping Mall instead. What a mistake that was! Apparently it should be only 5 minutes drive from WAL-MART, but it took me almost an hour. I got lost several times and almost has a head-on, because I turned out left into the left hand (wrong) lane. It is very easy to do when you are used to driving on the left hand side.

Finding Michael in Jackson and where I'm staying

Eventually I found Old Hickory Mall and met up with Michael. Michael is on exchange here and his host dad, Tommy is the Manager of the Mall. Anyway we went back to his house and unpacked.

Tommy is separated and lives on his own (with 5 dogs and 1 cat). He’s always hosting exchange students, and currently has two. (Michael from Germany and Michael from Australia.)

He’s very welcoming and I’m glad I’m able to stay here.
