We arrived at the coastal town of Tulum after a long bus journey from Merida. Got a taxi out of the town and booked into a beach hut for the next two days. The beach was stunning, white sands and azure blue sea. We watched the orange full moon rise in the evening as we waited for the electricity to be turned on (only on from 7pm to 6am). The hotel had a beach bar and restaurant , which were deserted as this is low season. After a couple of drinks at the beach bar we headed out for food but had left it a bit late so our only choice was Don Crappo, yum! After a riduculously spicy meal we returned to our hut to find that the electricity was not working and we had to sleep in the hot stuffy hut with no fan. The hostel owners gave us a discount of 50 pesos (2.5 quid), big licks.

The next day we woke early due to the intense heat in our hut, so what better way to cool down that a quick swim in the sea! The water was lovely and for 7am suprisingly warm. After our swim we showered and then head out to Tulum, some more Mayan ruins but these are on the coast so the setting is perfect.

The ruins themselves are not that spectacular and in the intense heat (at 9am) it was hard to concentrate on anything but the beautiful cooling sea! Shortly after we ariived about 10 coach tours also arrived and suddenly the place was packed. We did a quick tour round, met the local Iguanas and then headed back to our hut.

In the afternoon we spent most of our time chilling in our new hammock, reading books, looking through guides of our next destination and generally just chilling....just what we needed.
That evening with our electricity back on we enjoyed a couple of beers before heading out to what looked like a really nice restaurant. 30mins down a pitch black road we finally find the place.....closed, its low season stupid! So we ended up back at our hotel restaurant, bad idea as I reckon it was the worst food that we have had so far. Anway at least we had a cool hut for the night.

The next morning we set off at about lunch time to head to our final destination in Mexico, Chetumal, the gateway to Belize and beyond.......
