After spending a few days in the slightly chaotic La Paz we decided we would all go on a pampas tour in the Bolivian rainforest close to the Brazilian border.

We being Chris, Jac, Catherine and Aofie our Australian and Irish friends. We got to the military airport in La Paz and were shown into our tiny plane. Pod not being the greatest flyer had to frantically start playing chess to take his mind off things. Although a little bumpy the pilot made a perfect landing on the tiny mud strip and we were soon getting off into what felt like the set of some drug smuggling movie. Surrounded by rainforest and a few shifty looking characters we were piled into the back of a pick up and whisked into the quaint town of Rurrnenbarque.

The great thing about Rurrenbarque was it was hot and humid and we were back near sea level we could all breathe again. The following day we took a jeep and boat ride into the heart of the pampas where we stayed in wooden huts, had pet aligators that we passed on the way to the toilet and their was the visit by the uninvited anaconda! Which we all held when we were sure it wasn´t going to kill us!

Highlights of the trip were a moonlight boat ride around the pampas with torches spotting the aligators that were trying to spot us! Swinging in hammocks and playing poker by sunset, riding through the pampas at sunrise and then lazily fishing for sardines in the afternoon sun. The greatest highlight of all though was swimming with pink dolphins. There was four that were circling us and playing with a plastic bottle that we kept throwing for them to catch. Amazing!
