I am a Delhiite and sought to explore my city along with a friend. We visited most of the famous locations in my third year in college and I loved most of them.
We began our tourism affair with the India gate and is an iconic monument that like the taj is not adequately captured in pictures.

We went to the national museum twice or thrice and are contemplating another visit too !!! It's an awesome collection of diverse artifacts covering art,history,literature,coins..... and sums up the diversity that India possesses.

The red fort to be frank was a disappointment.Despite the aura and glamour associated with it we found it utterly boring .The multiple museums inside the complex were the only attractions that were pleasing.
The old fort is beautifully maintained and has well manicured lawns. There are many structures spread around in it and there's a small museum too.
The Qutab minar is breathtaking at first sight. It is in a complex that has many other historical monuments also .
Tughlakabad fort is in total disregard and has never been excavated. There are few attractions and and must be visited by the most idle tourist.

The Delhi zoo is a lively site and requires a trip spread over many hours .Enjoy it at your own pace.
The Humayun's tomb is a majestic site and I believe its the most beautiful monument of Delhi. We loved it the most and truly deserves a visit.
We also visited the National museum of natural history which is an educating location more so for the kids.
There's also the National gallery for modern arts that art lovers find exciting though we ourselves were thoroughly bored.

I went to the Jama masjid during a chandni chowk visit and found it to be majestic and imposing yet so calm.
There's a philately museum near janpath and deserves a visit from stamp collectors and enthusiasts. There's a counter for buying them too.
Talking about the janpath , a walk across it is quite exciting with huge government offices and booming ambassador cars .
There's the Jantar mantar too with its beautifully landscaped gardens and medieval observatory. It is located in connaught place among famed buildings.
Birla mandir is located on mandir marg close to connaught place and I had visited it when I had to go to the adjacent harcourt butler school for an exam.
The IITF(Trade Fair) was also like a tourist spot for me and I went there thrice in a week.It is a mini India on display over there
The rail museum is located in Chanakyapuri amidst the embassy area , close to Spanish and US embassies. It can be visited by rail buffs since there's a huge array of wagons, engines and other railway paraphernalia on display.
All these spots were covered by us over a year using public transport, we did lot of photography and saw our mesmerizing art & culture firsthand. We found the upkeep of most of them quite satisfactory though water and toilet facilities were inconveniently located at some spots.
