It's

definitely a must-see city. A lot more dirty and polluted than I

It's definitely a must-see city

expected, but just such wonderful history there. We were fortunate to

be there for Easter weekend, so we went to the public mass at the

Colisseum on Good Friday night. It was incredible, the pope was there

along with hundreds of thousands of people. They'd lit up the arches

in the Colisseum with flames, it was stunning to see. I'd been through

the Colossieum earlier that day, it knocks your socks off with the

scale and age of it. Other

places in Rome we saw included numerous fountains (including Fontana de

Trevi where we threw a coin oiver our shoulder to ensure our return to

Rome) loads of historic columns such as Colona Triana, a plethora of

basilicas like San Pietro in Vincoli, Santa Maria Maggiore and most

magificent of all St Peter's in Vatican City, the smallest country in

the world ...what a stunningly beautiful church. It really does take

your breath away. We walked past Castel Sant 'Angelo (for anyone that's

read Angels and Demons that is the so-called Illuminati lair!) along

the Tiber River, to Piazaa di Spagna (the Spanish Steps) past

Valentino, Gucci, Prada etc. Also went to the Pantheon which I thought

was awesome, saw Raphael's tomb, went shopping for faux handbags at

Campo de Fiori, through Piazza Navona, past Monumento a Vittoria

Emmanuelle II. Walked 122 steps to see Santa Maria D'Aracoeli and

traversed the ruins, taking in the air of Ancient Rome next to the Foro

Romana and walking in the footsteps of Julius Caesar. Of course we

managed to collapse into a few trattorias along the way!
