We made it to Christchurch in the pouring rain and spent the rest of the evening making car adverts and putting them up in every Youth hostel we could. We spent the night in ' Dorset House ' and got our own twin room for dorm price as they had run out of room.

The next day we went and washed our beloved car to try and make it look a bit more loved ! We also put a bit of WD40 on the fan belt to stop it squeaking ( Julia and I have learnt quite a lot about car maintainance- I now know how to take a door off the car and bolt the windows up with nothing more than a screw driver and a bit of cardboard !)

We had calls all day from interested people. We took one guy on a test drive around the pak 'n' save carpark and he hadn't a clue how to drive a manual and kept putting it in to 3rd adn 4th instead of 1st and 2nd ! A bit of a white knuckle ride. We sold it to a bunch of Israelis who gave us our asking price for it so we made $100 profit !

To celebrate we went o Mona Vale which is a public gardens with a restaurant where we had a devonshire tea and felt very English. We also went punting and taught our Peru punt guide how to turn his punt. It felt very like Cambridge with lots of bikes all over the place.

We spent the next few days exploring Christchurch, the botanical gardens were really pretty and we enjoyed staying in one place for more than 2 days ! We visited a wildelife reserve where we met some crazy birds. i had quite a terrifying expierence of emus trying to peck my head at the same time as a load of geese trying to chase me. julia came to the rescue and took me into the next area where there a kea tried to land on my head ! Phew ! We also got to see the allusive kiwi, which was mesmorising !

We had a great time down at the Banks Penninsula, whcih used to be an island until all the morraine from the glaciers joined it to the mainland. Its different from Chrsitchurch with lots of hills. We stayed in this amazing hostel near a beach. The owner cooks amazing gourmet meals for all the guests every night for just £4 ! We had 5 hour slowly roasted on a wood stove beef ! ( see the menu ! ) We were in heaven.
