We've had a lovely relaxing couple of days in Pangani at the Peponi beach resort. We managed to get a student/ backpacker rate and have been staying in a lovely big family sized banda with a high roof made of palm leaves. It even has a hot shower. What with the great shower and the lovely food, (even safe icecream!) and electricity 24hours, I dont care that we've had little sunshine. I managed to get slightly pink sitting by the pool somehow even though its been cloudy all day.

We're all pretty tired so this is a welcome break. Still, last week proved that we are well cared for and that should anything ever happen, the locals will make sure we get help straight away! Kirstie had a cold which started last weekend while we were up in Yamba. We climbed up the steep route and it exhausted all of us. I also suffered from what I think must have been altitude sickness which slowed me down a bit. But the views up there are worth the effort! But on Monday morning Kirstie was feeling quite rough so decided to have a day off school.  Within 10 minutes of us giving the message to school, one of the teachers was at the house with the Chairman, checking she was ok and asking to send for the doctor, and caroline, the charity organiser! She fortunately managed to convince them that it was just a cold and there was nothing to worry about.  She had more worried visitors including 2 more teachers later on but managed to get out of bed so they thought she was ok.  Next morning she still felt rough and stayed in bed. I had a stomach ache after breakfast and took some indigestion tablets, sending a message that I would be in school a bit late, but in time for my first class, while I waited for the tablets to work.  By five past 8 we had another of the teachers and the chairman at the door worried about me this time. I tried to explain that it was just indigestion but they kept saying they would send for the doctor from Yamba immediately! I had to be really firm in asking them to at least wait for the tablets to work! Father Baruti then turned up and so did our night watchman to make sure we were ok.  I am never going to take a day off unless I'm REALLY ill! I had to get into school even though my stomach still hurt just in case they went to get the doc. I didnt think he'd appreciate walking 2 hours down a mountain for a cold and a case of indigestion! At least we know they care, which is really nice.

Great place with lovely bandas, friendly staff and beautiful beach view.

Hope all is well at home!
