We arrived at about  20.30 and were met off the coach by Mick an absolute raving loonie (and they let him drive the mini bus??!!) We stopped half way to the Arts Factory for a lecture on recycling and generally keeping Byron clean, we felt like we were back at school being told off!

We made ourselves comfy in our rooms and tried to familiarise ourselves with the hostel, this proved pretty hard to do in the dark! So we made ourselves a gormet dinner of tuna sandwhich and soup and retired for the evening where we met our room mates.

Nimbin (a town in the mountains that is stuck in the 60s - full of stoned hippies and a really good vibe),

Next day we went to Cape Byron - the eastern most point of mainland Australia. We walked a good 5 km,saw Byron Lighthouse, dolphins and a bit of coastal rainforest and a few weddings on the beach (yuck! - but of course neither of us would object!) It was a beautiful day so we spent the rest of it on Main Beach. Thankfully the weather gets better the further up the coast we go!

Next day - Jim's Alternative Tour!! A trip in an old bus with an amazing sound system, driven by an almost as old hippy called Dougie. The bus took us into Nimbin (a town in the mountains that is stuck in the 60s - full of stoned hippies and a really good vibe), we went to the market and the Nimbin museum (possibly the strangest museum ever - looked a lot like my garage only dirtier and with more 'wildlife'.) We visited the home of a New York hippy (Paul) who has planted over 3000 trees in the 20 years he has been there. We sat around eating star fruit and macadamia nuts whilst some people went on a 'walk' with Paul. Jenn and I avoided this walk as we had been prewarned that it was highly likely we would return covered in leeches - which sure enough, they did!! Then we went to Minura Falls and the site where the Chiannon Markets are held (gutted that we missed those)  - by then, there were some pretty whacked people on the bus - our Norweigian roomies should get a special mention here. A quick 'munchies' stop on the way back to Byron rounded off a damn good day!

When we got back, our roomies - Andre and Bjorn, completely passed out - one too many 'special' cookies!!

We spent the evening chilling in the jacuzzi (bathtub size but with 11 people crammed in! - cozy!)

Next stop Surfer's Paradise.
