Unfortunately we didn't get to go iceclimbing on the Medenhall Glacier, as the access path was thigh deep in snow! We had to content ourselves with just viewing it, which as you see is pretty spectacular in its own way.

Hmmm - back to that thigh deep snow. Locals tell us that Juneau has had the greatest snowfall in the WORLD this year - so we thought we had better take a closer look at this ourselves! The hike up the eagle creast mountain (the lifts were shut) was pretty testing, but we were rewarded by some awesome snow at the top and some pretty scary jumps which Rob decided to test out. All good fun.

The next three days were spent on the beatiful, if slighly bleak, Alaska Marine Highway. Yep, three days on a ferry with just the briefest stop in Ketichikan, a pretty little boardwalk town. The ferry crew made us welcome (especially the barman, with only 60 people on a 500 person ferry he didn't have many others to serve!) and our little cabin with a window was a great place to watch the islands go by. It was very relaxing and quite suspended in time - V even did some embroidery which Rob found impressive!! Being smaller than most of the cruise ships that ply the main route, the ancient Matanuska ferry was able to navigate some very narrow passages in Alsaka's "inside passage". Quite hairy in places! (see www.akferry.org for details)

We arrived into Bellingham and got the greyhound bus back to Seattle where we caught up with our car again, and Rob's friends Tom and Linda.
