Lake Superior Provincial Park
From The Great Canadian Roadtrip in Lake Superior Provincial Park, Canada on Aug 31 '06
Driving from the soo up highway 17 would probably be a nicer drive if you could see more of lake superior but most of the time it is hidden by trees. Plus i think i was driving through the area a couple of weeks early as i may just be missing all the trees turning for autumn. Some of them were brown or red but it was still mainly all green. Rather then going on a crazy drive on too thunder bay i decided to do a couple more nights camping at the two parks on the way. First night was at lake superior provincial park which was very well signposted and had 3 campsites to choose from. The one i camped at was inland a bit from the coast and had a fairly demanding hike that i didn't get to finish as i had to get back to the campsite to buy some fire wood as it was like this, no firewood meant no hot meal which means a pissed off Irish guy in the woods which no-one wants.
I did get to the usual lookout point that once again gave a spectacular view over the park. Later that evening i also got my first bear warning. there was a bear spotted on the highway not far form the camp but luckly i have surviced to tell the tale.
Next day drove on through Wawa who have make as much use of the fact that it means wild geese in one of the native tongues as the highway doesn't go through the town proper the have put up a giant goose at the junction with the highway. Now it wasn't the goose that drew me in as i had to get fuel. That's my story and i am sticking to it.
