Tropical Queensland - A place where every animal is deadly

Had a tricky bus journey from Airlie beach, the morning immediately following the after boat party! 13 hours on a bus with a hangover isnt a great deal of fun!

The only point of note on the journey was seeing a wild Cassowary on the roadside - an endangered (and deadly) bird.

Arrived in Cairns at about 7pm-ish and were too shattered to do a lot. At least out accommodation was nice. Tropical Queensland lived up to its name and emptied down about every hour. It was really hot and very humid. Although there were lots of things to see and do we were glad we weren't going to have to stay too long. Its too uncomfortable!

The activity we wanted to do was out of action so we had a toss up between going to an aboriginal culture centre or watch crocodiles being fed by hand and perform the 'head shake' and 'death role'. The aboriginals didnt stand a chance.

Hartleys Crocodile Farm was pretty good, although i have to say that we were both a little to weary to take it in. We both touched a 4.8m saltwater croc, sent to sanctuary for biting the heads off cows! We enjoyed the live snake show (and were metres from the worlds most venomous snake).

Seeing the crocs up close was slightly unsettling as they leapt out of the water a few metres from our boat to feed. Even the little ones (3m!) were an awesome sight!

The following day we flew to Alice Springs to begin our 3 day, 2 night outback adventure and see Uluru (Ayers Rock). We'll update this first chance we get.

Hope your all well, feel free to email us with any news from home. Half way through trip now so see you in 2months!
