All things are better in Boston
From All things are better in Boston in Boston, United States on Aug 28 '05
New England is known for its beauty, sights, history.. and Boston never fell short of that.
Upon arriving in Boston, I was shocked to discover how different it was from California, where I grew up. Boston has no grocercy stores, but markets and delis serving everything fresh. Boston is also a city rich of history, which local Bostonians are truly proud of and cherish deeply. This is evident when I went souvenier shopping at night, only to discover that the city likes to end their day early around 5pm. The only places open after that are 24-hr pharmecies and of course, pubs.
An All-American City
Boston pubs and taverns can probably have a page of their own, for there are hundreds of them scattered throughout the city. If you have walked 2 blocks without seeing a pub, then you might consider that you're quite lost, my friend. The pubs are open most of the day for restaurant business and really thrive at night when the locals go for a drink after work. Most of the pubs provide entertainment on weekend, so if you're frustrated trying to find evening entertainment- no fear- just go into your nearby pub.
The people of Boston are nice and friendly. They will go out of their way to answer your questions and help you out. Boston people don't really know how to get around their city other than their own neighborhood or metro. So leave the directions to the maps, do NOT rely on the locals. Boston people are very smart and witty, but however they don't quite know their way around the city other then their neighborhood any more then you do. Two things you will not insult in front of them are: 1) their beautiful historic city, and 2) the Boston Red Sox. So if you happen to get a dirty look, make sure you're not sporting any 'NY Yankee' gear.
Boston has many metros, which you can gain all access to while riding the subway, aka 'T'. Beacon Hill, North End, Chinatown, Downtown District, Financial District.
North End is one of my favorite parts of the city. As it contains, 'Little Italy', which is really a minature Italy within itself and sits on the Charles River. This part of the city, is a place where everyone knows each other, little old Italian men sit outside with a cup of coffee, and where you'll get the best minestrone any where in the city. Not exactly a historic site or attraction, but I would tell everyone who is going to Boston to visit it. At least make a stop for their reasonable priced souveniers.
Boston is a town full of sights, sounds, and history that never grows old. The people are kind, the city is safe, and the fall season is beautiful here. The sense of American pride and unity is extremely strong here in Boston. Boston is simply the gem of New England.
