Last night on South Island
From Our Big Adventure in Picton, New Zealand on Feb 10 '07
After an early morning and the usual practicalities of preparing the van, we set off for the Sunday market in Moteuka. There is masses of fruit on offer and we end up with a fridge full. We also find a stall selling nuts and seeds called 'Munchy Seeds' which we also have in the UK. Turns outit is a NZ company who started in Nelson selling at the local markets and then married an English bloke and moved to the UK, hence now being available in the UK...most strange - needless to say we ended up buying some of those too.
Drove on to Havelock where Byron decided we should take a short cut - this smells of bad news ! My shortcuts often have the same outcome - small, narrow, very twisty road - scary mountain drops...By's road choice is no exception and we wind our way along the side of Queen Charlotte Sound....very pretty from so high up. We eventually descend down the otherside into Picton and find the caravan park without too much hassle. It is lucky we are early as an hour later the place is full !
Into town for a pleasant dinner on a restored scow, which is landlocked on the side of the harbour....great food and a free beer with our caravan park card.
