Took a mini bus to Wadi Musa, we met a very nice Italian couple on the bus. We decided to all go together to the hotel that Steph(f)an and Jayne had reccomended. Got up there, it is very new and the hamam looks neat, but co-ed and they push the massages a little too hard. Room was massive and had three beds. Went straight to Petra. Have to walk quite far from the entrance to the actual siq. Passed the really cool Obelisk tomb. Then the Siq. We were in a rush and sped through it but wowowow. Goes on forever and then all the sudden there is the treasury. Tried to ignore it all because we wanted to do the monostary first and if we looked at the stuff we'd stop. Got the and started up. I get very short of breath very quickly when we walk, but in like a minute my breathing is fine.Gorgeous hike, the rocks and their colors were spectacular. The road goes up and up and up and then there is the Monastary. Like the Treasury but absolutely massive and not as ornate. Hiked about up there and headed down just before dark. Collected rocks on the way. By the time we hit the Siq it was nearly dark and by the time we emerged from it it was totally dark. A doggy followeed us to the exit, our little protector. Got pizza and the free shuttle came and got us. TV and pizza and bed.

17th- Took the shuttle to Petra with the Italian couple after breakfast. We stopped at a bakery, they bought us sweets, which was so sweet. The owner gave me a treat and a little old lady came up to me and grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to the heater then started peppering me with questions in Arabic. Stopped at Jeff's Book Shop, which upset us because Jeff should have told us he had a book store in Petra. Went to the Nabatean Tunnel, impressive feat of engineering for not, but they built it thousands of years ago. Really took our time in the Siq, it is a tourist attraction in it's own right. Then looked all around the Treasury. Went up to the High Place of Sacrifice, great views. The rocks on the walk down were beyond anything I knew was possible. Red, white, blue, green, pink, brown, purple, black, yellow, tan and more. Some really cool tombs. Climbed to the top of the Roman Theatre, which was a bit scary because it is not in as good a shape as the others, but we had a private box and it was excellent. Some some more then the Palcae tombs. We were up the, only people around cause it was nearly dark and this tan and white dog came up to us and started going crazy. Everytime we'd move it would lunge and we were convinced it was going to get us. I told Cook to hold perfectly still and not look at is and then tried to laugh because I didn't want to show fear. Cook made the laughing part easier because she said if it attacked she would hit it with a metal pipe that was under this stuff and by and by the dog slowly moved away. Once it was a comfortable distance we slowly walked away. Meander through the Siq admiring the Disney-esque perfectness of it. Walk to a resturaunt and who should happen to be inside but the Italian couple! So we eat together and then head back to the hotel. Talked to this facsinating Spainish guy but the worker who had been talking to us (and liked me) got jealous and made him leave. So funny-- but sucked too-- and no, I didn't like him. He just kept asking if I liked Arab men and I kept laughing.

I wuve it, Cook wuves it

18th- wen tfor last day in Siq, =(. Never can get enough of that place. Then also hit museum and the Palace of the Pharos Daughters. Then the Temple of the Winged Lions, quite cool. The original street level in Petra is actually 6-8 meters down, incredibly. So there is probably all kinds of unbelievable things still down there. Took the cab to Amman, went to the same hotel, leaving in the morning.
