A Cold Day and a Cool Day

OK so on the 22nd we didn't do much of anything. The funniest part of the day is how we sat in our beds too cold to move and talked about all the foods we wanted to eat. We went on and on and finally ate the roof of our gingerbread house, which wasn't very good but we were STARVING. Then went out into the lobby and learned that, as I'd suspected, they could have food delivered. Had really good fuul and Fatma reccommended ticks, but couldn't really explain them. She is nice and we trust her so we ordered some. They are like mashed potatoes in a pita, good but a little salty.

On the 23rd we went with a driver from the hotel to Memphis and Sakkara. First to Sakkara, the Step Pyramid and some other early pyramids. Got to go in the which was really cool. You have to walk all hunched over because the tunnels are very short. Also got to go in a couple of tombs which had really cool carvings (even if they had a big focus on butchering animals for the deseased to eat in the afterlife) and people who check you ticket then ask for a tip. There were holes around that went to tunnels or other tombs or whatever that were just filled with trash. Standing looking at the Step Pyramid and this guy comes over with a donkey and say could I have some gum. So we give him a piece and he asks us to take his picture with Cook, so we say ummm.....OK? She is standing next to him when all the sudden, and I wish my camera had been on at this point, he picks her up and puts her on the donkey. Then another guy comes over and is trying to get me on his donkey and I say no way, and I really don't think you are going to pick me up. So I stand NEXT to the donkey and the guy takes a picture and Cook gives him a tip and after that we avoid donkey dudes like the plague. The thing in Sakkara that I'd really wanted to see was the Serapeum, but unfortunately it was closed, as was almost everything in Sakkara. Same story in Memphis, the only thing that was open was the little museum with the very massive and cool Ramses statue. The driver tried to get us to go to a papyrus store, then the pyramids to ride horses and then finally took us back to the hotel. At the hotel they told us that they had booked our room, which sucked since before they'd been like stay as long as you like, you have to at least stay till Christmas. So we found a new hotel right by the pyramids and we check in tomorrow.Â
