I’m liking Boston. It’s a lot like London – the streets aren’t ordered in blocks which makes a change!, the buildings aren’t too tall or too short, like London, the streets are about London width, not about 1/2 a mile wide, and Quincy Market is basically the same as Covent Garden. So, if London had a coast and a few more Americans it would probably be pretty similar to Boston! There are also a lot of British people here too. My hotel is only about 5 minutes from Quincy Market which is cool so I went and grabbed some food there yesterday and watched some guys from the Bronx do some breakdancing, which was a hell of a lot better than the Warwick breakdancing ‘cru’ who thought they were sh*t hot!! Today I took a walk around the waterfront, Quincy Market and the North End of Boston. The weather today is nice and sunny, although a lot colder than I’ve been used to, so a start of things to come I think! Unfortunately, due to an ‘almost hurricane’ that has been in Florida and the Carolinas it is meant to rain tomorrow and Sunday which is a bit of a shame. There is another ‘cow parade’ here so there are lots of cow sculptures littered around the city. I indulged in a bit more shopping today – it’s hard not to when you’re in a city by yourself! Many of the buildings around the areas I visited today were old warehouses which were really nice, I was quite jealous of the people living in them as they were on the waterfront and not that expensive according to the local estate agents – so not quite like London then! Many people were moving today too as it is Labor Day weekend so Monday is a public holiday. I ended up in the Italian district too which was nice, with lots of little streets, warehouses and Italian restaurants and coffee houses. Although, they had their Christmas lights up in the street which I couldn’t decide was incredibly early, or incredibly late. I suppose as it is now September it is incredibly early. Anyway, seemed a little out of place! I took a walk along part of the ‘Freedom Trail’ which was actually fairly uninteresting to me as it charts the Pilgrim fathers’ history through the city. It seemed to consist of Church, followed by graveyard, followed by Church etc etc. The Americans on the trail seemed far more into it than me so I left them to it after a while. Tomorrow I think I’ll have a wander around Chinatown and the Theatre District as long as the weather isn’t too bad and I’m not stuck in my hotel room again!

Hi. Glad you have been able to go shopping again; withdrawl syptoms could have been nasty. You were right to abandon that freedom trail; They might have done better to negotiate a settlement with us than declare UDI which I think is the status that still prevails in some Brits eyes. Will you be in New York on Labor Day. Should be good for a parade or two, unless you have seen too many of them already Your Mum is sponsor walking/jogging round Hyde park tomorrow so pray for dry weather; no chance of hot. Bring warm clothes home!! Jim
