Josie had 2 friends that had been emailing her saying that they were in San Juan del Sur. Thinking it was a shot in the dark to find them, Josie and I left Granada and drove to SJDS hoping to run into her friends. We arrived early and went straight to a surf shop to rent a longboard for Josie and who would be standing in the shop but the 2 friends we thought we'd never run into. After making plans for dinner and drinks we headed to Playa Madera to catch some waves. After picking up 2 local surfer kids hitchiking on the road in to Madera, we decided not to get the 2 wheel drive truck stuck and walked the rest of the hill down.

Madera is a great break and so much fun with some swell.
Know the locals, the tourists and the hookers.. and dont confuse the 3
That night, we went to dinner at el Pozo and had one of the best meals I have had in Central America. The food is delicious and the company was fun. We capped the night off with a trip to Iguanas and I got picked up on by some local "working" girls... I quickly excused myself and made haste back to the hotel, all the while accusing Josie and her friends of deliberately setting me up!

The next day the same 2 kids met us at our hotel and the 4 of us drove to Playa Yanquee. The road down was fun and I didn't think the truck would make it back up without 4 wheel drive but I'm a pro and gassed the hell out of it,throwing rocks and skidding the back end around uphill hairpin turns. I thanked the 2 kids for taking us surfing by giving a Smith hat that I got free from the Smith rep at Los Cardones to one kid and an extra center fin to the other kid who accidentally broke his on a rock. Pay it forward!
