We hate Kassel !!

From Europe on a bike in Kassel, Germany on Jun 26 '06

David and Joe has visited no places in Kassel

We got up and the day started well. Breakfast was good and we found a cycle shop where I could buy a couple of things for my bike.

Note to people cycling in hot weather - one water bottle is not enough ! - When you're on your bike you lose more water than you realise. I usually knew I was thirsty or hungry when I started having cravings. If I was thirsty I would get an image of a beer pop in my head and if I was hungry I would get an image of a burger ! ... People talk about listening to your body but it's funny how you tune into these things.

Anyway, we pushed all the way to Kassel - around 91 miles. As soon as we arrived in Kassel things went poo. Dave fell stunt man style off his bike after getting the front wheel caught in a tram line. Everyone stood back and watched as I helped him off the road. We quickly realised that people in Kassel don't like cyclists and that they were all miserable frowning people. The place seemed full of unemployed people hanging around and people who seemed just thoroughly miserable.

After Dave was shown round three or four rooms, they finally found the right one and we checked ourselves into a hotel with some crazy girl. It was called the Art Hotel but it was about as arty as the inside of my sports bag - not that we were too concerned - all we wanted was pasta. We found an Italian restaurant and sat down for a delicious meal. The place seemed too good for us. All we wanted was some nice pasta we could put in our mouths. Anyway, it was a little more than we expected but our bellys were full.

It had been a long day. We'd been fighting to get to a place we now wanted to leave as soon as we could. Kassel was probably our lowest point.

Joe's profanity Index 7/10

We hate Kassel ! But we'd covered another 91 miles into Germany so we were still on track ...
