Meeting the Americans
From English Lacrosse Association 2004-2005 in Ascot, United Kingdom on Aug 28 '04
Well, this was the first time meeting the 36 other American girls that were hired along with me. Funny thing is, I only really chose to stay in touch with one person, Kristin, whom I travelled with for the rest of the year. I saw some other girls sporadically, when our teams were playing one another, or running into them in Greece haha.  We went through training in Ascot which honestly was a joke. it only helped to solidify the fact that the ELA is lost on what they need to do to make lacrosse the best it can be in the country. How do you manage to forget to tell girls to bring all of their equipment to training? We thought it was going to be all classroom training, not hardcore 6 hours of playing. That should have been the first inkling that things were never going to go smoothly if the ELA was involved. No offense if any of you stumble across this but heres a few tips for you...
Make your workers feel as though they are still wanted after they arrive in England. Your really quick on helping out the people applying and interviewing, but once we signed that contract we were forgotten. And believe me it didnt set a good tone for training.
Dont be like highschoolers and talk about your workers. If you had any concerns about me wanting to leave, dont you think you should have contacted me? And then when you found out i was leaving for family issues, dont you think someone other then Dave could have called me to talk to me about the situation or to say thankyou for sticking through this program that was in shambles the whole year.Â
Andlastly, its kind of hard to take the organization seriously when management is having relationships with workers in secret. Yea thats right.... things get around... do England a favor and do the girls a favor who love lacrosse and start taking your job seriously.
Wow that feels much better haha
