Our last full day on Cape Cod. Back to Boston tomorrow and then our flight back to London on Saturday morning.

Sitting watching the Democrats in Denver this evening, suddenly wished our schedule had been two weeks later. Wonder if we'd have got into the Mile High Stadium if we'd been in Denver today? It holds 75 thousand and it was open to all comers. I guess probably not. There must have been a surplus in Colorado queueing up to be present as history was made. But would have been amazing to be there.

We contented ourselves with watching Obama on the telly. I liked the story of Deval Patrick, one of only two African American Governors, who was waiting to be interviewed this evening by one of the networks as Jennifer Hudson started to sing the National Anthem. His speech two days ago was excellent and he gives the impression of being as hard bitten as the best, but as the singing started he was in floods of tears and the interview had to be held up for ten minutes while he composed himself. Asked about his tears, he said it was the realisation of the significance of the evening for African Americans and the history he was about to witness.

We had the volume up loud and William slept like a log. Nothing like a good political speech to aid your slumbers.

We've had a great week on the beach here, very relaxing, but our thoughts have been turning more and more to coming home. Looking forward to it. Hoping for an Indian Summer - a September that will be kind to us. And thinking about William starting school in two weeks time !

I think six weeks has been the right length of time for our travels. We finally played the Wild Animal Lagoon mini-golf course this afternoon, the last themed course in the area. I think finally the idea is starting to be more appealing to Will than the reality. He's loved mini-golf all summer but I think he's finally all putted out. There was a lot of sitting around in the middle of the greens this afternoon. And for me, despite a spectacular hole in one on the Buffalo Range, I finally lost my ball in the 'crocodile infested' lake as I tried to whack it over the little wooden bridge. Hole 16, and my last of this trip I sense.

And for me, I'm finally running out of games to play with Will in the swimming pools, although for him the idea will NEVER be more appealing than the reality when it comes to swimming. He would swim morning, noon and night given a choice.

It' been a wonderful, memorable, relaxing, tiring, exciting summer. I hope Will remembers at least SOME of it and knows where he's been. At the moment, when we ask him where we've been all summer, he says Massachusetts.

But it's the right time to come home. Lets get on that plane before the Republicans get started next week.
