To Amsterdam again
From Carnival Break!! in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Feb 23 '06
Well my week of work was over, and 8 days of vacation were ahead of me. Today was the day Evan was coming to visit. He was flying into Brussels and then taking a train to Amsterdam, where Patrick, Stu, and I were to meet him. So we were going to catch the 6:46 train to Amsterdam, but Stu and Pat were a little late so we barely made it. Then we were off. A short 3 hour train ride and we were there. On the train ride, Pat fell asleep while Stu and I reminisced about past adolescent pranks such as tping and practical jokes. It was great.
Our meeting point was a Burger King in the train station. Evan's train was going to arrive a little earlier than our, so we thought he would be waiting there. When we arrived there was no sign of him. So we ate some cheap burgers and waited. He showed up after about 10 minutes and then we were off. This time we were staying in a hostel called Bob's Youth Hostel...sounds real classy I know. To be perfectly honest it was worse than the first hostel we stayed in, which means really bad. The reception area was down in the basement of a building and our actual room was a block over in a different building...very sketchy. So we checked in and then we were off to hit the town.

The first stop was, of course, the red light district. We showed Evan around, and were offered the usual drugs, "Coke, X, Bang Bang." It's funny to go back when you know what to expect, but to Evan it was all new and that was a great thing to see. This time we found a real treat in the red light. We stubbled upon this alley which could not have been more than 5 feet wide, and on both sides were "booths." At first we were hesitant to walk through, but we decided that we had to do it since we were here. All I can say is it was quite an experience. After this it was off to the bars. The first stop was a place that was right off the red light street. As we were ordering our drinks, I noticed there were tons of guys there and now ladies...needless to say we drank our drinks and then quickly left.
After this we went to eat and just randomly roamed the city. We hit a few more bars and all in all it was a great time. I have made this a short entry because I have a lot of journals to write and I honestly don't think much of Amsterdam, but it's still fun to go there. Just wait for the Italian entries.
