Tortuguero National Park / Parc National de Tortuguero / (Mathieu)

The trip on a river from PUERTO LIMON to TORTUGUERO was pretty nice : we took a small boat driven by Oscar, a young rasta ticos ( ticos is the nickname of the people of Costa Rica) and during this 4 hours he took the time to show us the intense biodiversity of the jungle ( herons, kingfishers, iguanas, spider monkeys, birds always different due to the high number of species, and ... cayman in the river !). A tico told us that an american guy who tried to swim in the river was killed few days ago by a crocodile.

After an unforgottable first party night in Central America, we took again a boat to see the canal and spot wildlife of the "Parque Nacional Tortuguero" : a bit disapointed, instead of turtule we saw beautifull boats with noisy motors and crowded of fats and olds americans tourists. I read in a book that there is 50 000 visitors per year in Tortugero. When Csaba (our new hungarian friend) see a Gringo (negative surname given by the ticos to americans tourists), he says cynicaly every time : " Where is my machine gun ?".

Le voyage sur la riviere de PUERTO LIMON a TORTUGERO etait tres beau: nous avons pris un petit bateau conduit par Oscar, un jeune rasta tico (ticos est le surnom des gens du Costa Rica) et pendant 4 heures, il a pris le temps de nous montrer l intense biodiversite de la jungle (herons, martin-pecheur, iguanes, singes, des oiseaus toujours differants a cause de la grande diversite d especes presentes, et ... des caymans dans la riviere !). Un ticos nous a dit qu un touriste americain qui essayait de nager dans la riviere s etait fait tuer par un crocodile quelques jours avant.

Apres notre inoubliable et premiere soiree en Amerique Centrale, nous avons repris un bateau pour voir le canal et la vie sauvage du "Parque Nacional Tortuguero" : un peu decevant, au lieu de voir des tortues (qui ne viennent pondre qu en juin/juillet), on a vu d adorables bateaux avec des gros moteurs remplis et vieux touristes americains bien gras. J ai lu dans un bouquin qu il y avait 50 000 visiteurs par an a Tortugero. Quand Csaba (notre nouveau ami hongrois) voit un Gringo (surnom pejoratif donne par les ticos aux touristes  americains), il dit a chaque fois cyniquement : "where is my machine gun ?"
