Our last port day was in Playa del Carmen.  We had to take tenders over to the port.  We had signed up for a 10 hour tour to Chichen Itza.  I don't know if I would ever do a 10 hour tour again, but the place was amazing.  It took just over 3 hours to get there by bus.  When we got there our guide showed us around and explained what the grounds were used for.  There is a lot to see here.  It did feel a little rushed because of the time restraints.  If I had it to do over again, I would probably stay in the area.

When we got back to the port we didn't have time to do anything but get on another tender and got back on board.  I wish we had had more time there.  The weather was beautiful and the beaches looked great.

I don't know if I would ever do a 10 hour tour again

I have always wanted to travel here. Do you know what the difference in hotel rates are between staying around the historical places such as this and closer to the ocean? I would like a reasonable hotel rate but also close to sites such as this.
