A group of us had decided to take the catamaran and spend the day in Colonia, an hour away in Ururguay.

It´s a really pretty place and a welcome break from the manic traffic and pace of Buenos Aires.  It´s very touristy but the buildings are great and the streets are cobbled and the sun was out again.

Half an hour´s horse ride on the beach for less than a pound

There was a classic car rally in town in the square, and after a trip up the lighthouse we had lunch in the middle of a cobbled street.

In the afternoon, the ones who had a later return ticket hired a 4-seater golf cart (really) to tour the town and out to the beaches.  We snuck into the decrepid bullring for a wander, and on the way back stopped to admire some horses roped up under some trees. I got chatting to the caballero owner, and he offered us half an hour´s horse ride along the bearch for 6 pesos each - less than a pound.

So off we went, and had a great slow clop along the sand as the low sun burned, before zipping back into town for a drink and heading home to the bright lights of B.A.

Everyone we met was really friendly and defintely makes me think about going back to see more of the place.  We´ll see!
