I want you to know what I thought of Merida, but I do not have much energy to write a long blog entry right now.
I was really lucky to be in the capital of the Yucatan for Mexican Independence Day (no it is not on the fifth of May). The celebration was 12 hours! It started at 9pm and went to 9am the next morning. I did not stay out very late and things were still fairly mellow when I left at 11:30; however, I did get to see the fireworks since they had them early for the kiddos.

Two American boys escorted me to the fiesta because I did not want to be out at night alone. We all met at the bus station in Chichen Itza and took the same bus to Merida. They were fresh out of high school and a little silly. It was nice being able to speak English and be understood. Everyone else that I had speaking English with was not a native speaker and a lot gets lost in translation.
I met two fabulous chicas at the hostel and we all went to Uxmal together. Uxmal (pronounced ook-shmal) is a site of Mayan ruins an hour or so out of Merida. I really liked the ruins because you could climb everything!!! When you would get to the top and look out over the park, it was so breathtaking.

There are not very many pictures of my visit to Uxmal because I broke my camera about an hour into my visit. Mirna will be emailing me the pictures she took when she gets home to Puebla, Mexico in two weeks.
That is all for now. Please check back in the next few days for more info on Merida.
Due to the recent passing of my camera, you will need to settle for reading my blogs future blogs picture-less. Sorry.
