Sedona must be one of the top five most beautuful places on earth.  You start by driving into to town along the Oak Creek Canyon, which is absolutely breathtaking, and then it opens up to the wonderful red mountains that surround the city of Sedona.  Once you cross the bridge into the city you are surrounded on both sides with the usual tourist traps, but also with gallery after gallery and restaurants and stores that offer you everything southwestern that you can imagine.  My first planned stop was at the tourist center to ask directions to the towns only quilt shop, which by chance happened to be at the far end of town.  What a treat that was!  It was fully stocked with all of the newest lines of fabric;staffed with the friendliest workers and covered in the most beautiful quilts.  And even more fun was the gallery in the back where you could go out and see the quilts that are on display and for sale...a definate MUST for any quilter to see.  I bought more fabric than I needed, as usual, and then Steve and I went looking for our motel, the Sky Ranch Lodge.  It was a wonderful surprise to find that it sits atop a bluff that overlooks the entire town, so we gladly checked in and settled down for some rest.  I didn't feel like going to a hotel so I sent Steve out for some take-out and we rested for the night.

The next day was a day trip out to the pre-historic ruins and cliff dwellings of the Palatki and Honaki Indians...we went to Tuzigoot, Montezumas Castle, and a couple of other places that I can't remember the names of, but it made for a full and exciting day.  All of us were exhausted by days end and rested comfortable back at the motel after grabbing a big bite to eat.

The next day was my birthday and also the day of the SuperBowl so Steve dropped me off for my scheduled appointment at the New Day Spa where I got the absolute best massage in my life and then he went next door to a bar and restuarant to watch the game.  Actually, it was called a "body treatment" and I was wrapped in the sedona clay, and pampered like never before.  They have a website...so google them if you are interested.  After that I had no interest in sitting at the bar so I took the truck and the dog and went back to the motel until he called me to come and pick him up.  Over-all it was a wonderful day, and over way too soon.

The next day we packed up and headed out of town, on our way to the grand Canyon.  But thats a story for another time.
