Made our way around the Gulf of Taranto to a spot called Lido di Metaponto and found a site for only 10 Euros with two Germans vans there. Apparently we had seen the back of a small Aussie van disappearing into the distance as we arrived! Wandered around but not a soul in site but debris left everywhere after yesterdays storm which apparently brought the sea into the campsite!
On our way to Greece....

On our way now to Brindisi for our ferry tomorrow night to Patras in Greece. Just before arriving spotted an Auchan supermarket so drove in and as is the way, when we find a BIG supermarket, we spend up! Arrived Brindisi armed with the internet directions to the city’s “sosta” site…..first time we’ve actually found one successfully! Parked up in this area which was ENORMOUS with trucks and buses all over the place. Located the one small men’s shower and toilet and made our way into town to collect our ferry tickets for tomorrow. Horror of horrors the rude and unhelpful lady in the Endeavour Lines office told us “no, no ferry tomorrow”. She then told us to call the tel # on our confirmation to try to figure out what was going on, after our insistence she made the call for us and found out they had cancelled the trip. (later we found 4 emails from the agent in Crete!) At her suggestion we rushed back to the sosta – collected the van and sped down to the port. Pretty ironic as it was the first time we had found a sosta in the centre of a large Italian city only to have to leave it without staying!

So made the ferry departure at 6.30pm and sat in the van waiting patiently to board watching what seemed like thousands of trucks being loaded, all the whilst drinking a few glasses of some Lambrusco! Pretty posh boat but hardly anyone on board! Slept kind of ok in what they call “Pullman seats”.
