Gourmet foods in Seattle

I wake up at 8 am and head with Dad to Lowell's Diner in the Pike Place Market. I get a market vegetable omelet and a hot chocolate. After our breakfast, we explore the market and look at ridiculous collectibles from movies and TV before the baseball collector opens his shop at 10 am. Dad buys a 1958 issue of "Sports Illustrated" for his collection and a baseball card. We drop our purchases off at the hostel and then take the # 28 bus to the Fremont district. I show Dad the giant statue of Lenin, the Fremont Troll, and the rocket ship that declares quite humorously that Seattle is the center of the universe. We have snacks at an organic bakery (I have a dark chocolate covered peanut butter energy ball). Then, we explore the antique shops and I buy a $5 vintage t-shirt. We walk five blocks to Gas Works Park and Dad and I take photos of the panoramic views of Seattle from a small hill, while lots of kites fly above our heads in the strong wind. We catch the bus back to downtown, and this time it is a much shorter ride because we don't have to wait for boats to pass underneath the drawbridge. We head to the Seattle Mariners team store and then to the Pike Place Market (again) to buy turkish delight, fresh goat cheese chevre, and sample lots of interesting foods. I do a bit of shopping and then enter into a 2 hour discussion with my dad on politics and health care. I lead my dad to Il Fornaido (an upscale Italian restaurant on the bottom floor of the mall, of all places!) I order butternut squash ravioli in a crispy sage, olive oil, and tomato puree sauce. It is so INCREDIBLY good. I plan to just look at the dessert cart, but I am entranced by a small shortbread crusted hazelnut cream pastry with blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries in an orange/strawberry creme angleise. It is the most incredible dessert and there is NO CHOCOLATE in it?! I go back to the hostel feeling satisfied with my food and my day.
Another day of incredible food on the west coast. How will I cope when I go back to eating dehydrated foods?
