Today its time to head home. Sadly Max didn't join us for breakfast this morning. Breakfast today was baked grapefruit, cornbread (with honey), and spinach and mushroom frittata. After stuffing ourselves, we headed out. We stopped at the beach on our way to the ferry to take a little walk since we had time before the ferry left.

Our plan for the day was to take the inter-island ferry to Lopez island, spend part of the day on Lopez, and then take the ferry to Anacortes and drive home. Doing the hops between islands in that direction is free for car and passengers. We got the ferry terminal to discover that the inter-island ferry had been pulled out of service that morning (due to safety concerns on that type of ferry) and the schedule was all messed up for the day. We pulled over and consulted the very complex ferry schedule only to discover that there was no way to stop on Lopez Island for more than an hour, and it would be starting to get dark by the time we could get there. Very disheartened, we drove around to sight see on other parts of Orcas and came up with our plan for the day. We took a walk near where we were staying in deer harbor and enjoyed the views of the nearby little private islands.

Eventually we headed back to the ferry terminal and joined the longish line of cars. It was nothing like traveling in the high season out to the San Juans, but taking one ferry out of service made a big difference! We settled on the ferry for the ride to Anacortes.

Once we arrived, it was still a beautifully sunny day outside, so we decided to make the short drive to Deception Pass. We drove over the bridge and into the park. After driving through the park, we made it to a parking lot by the water. We took a walk to get to where we could see the bridge. We hung out on the beach for a while and took a bunch of photos before heading back on the trail to the car. From the parking lot, we had a beautiful view of the Olympics and the sun setting. We admired the view for a bit and then headed home.

It sounds like you had a very nice trip to San Juan Islands Washington. It's always nice for me to see what life is like on and around other islands. I too took a trip to the San Juan Island area this past year. My brother is stationed at the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island. I found that ferry a little expensive to the islands, but found another great way to see the San Juan Islands and the Olympic Mountains. I went on a boat ride with Deception Pass Tours. It was wonderful. Very affordable and we had beautiful views after we went under the bridge! If you ever get back, you should try it. Maybe I'll get to Orcas Island one day!
