Tonight we are relaxing at a beautiful campsite at Two Rivers, Wisconsin. The campgrounds is the Beach Point State Forest and it is right on the coast of Lake Michigan. We are socked in with fog, but despite that, the beach is georgeous sandy dunes, and the sand is clean and light. Kids have been here today, making sand castles. Early this morning we left our site at Carroll Lake in Northern WI where the leaves were in full color and drifting down across the lake . I have enjoyed each night at our various campsites and love to just gaze out the window next to my head marvelling at the beauty above and beside me.
We are seeing lots of dairy farms and horses here. Wisconsin is a beautiful state and the people are all so friendly. This morning Mrs. Dorothy Walachevitz welcomed us and told us to visit her cousin John's Tire Shop in Orland, CA.
Heard at a local gas station: An older man filling his tank, whistling "Misty" at the Musky Mart.
Then we got off the highway on Vince Lombardi Blvd. and within a few blocks we were at Lambeau Field, Home of the Green Bay Packers. Bill has always rooted for Green Bay and when he saw the statues of Vince Lombardi and Curly Lambeau, I know he was feeling lots of emotion.
Curly Lambeau started a football team at the local meat packing company and in 1921 they became a professional team called the Acme Meat Packers. Later when they needed money they sold stock in the team and finally the people of the city came to own the franchise. So the team can never move and the fans remain completely loyal. We took an hour long tour and got to sit inside a special box section and went out the tunnel that the players use to enter the field each game day. The bleachers remain aluminum and the grass is real but synthetic grass has been stitched into the field. Real grass roots cling to the synthetic and are anchored by it, so that no divits or holes are made in the grass. Then we went to the Packers Hall of Fame, and saw a replica of Lombardi's Office and many other interesting rooms filled with memories of the past teams and present teams as well. This week we are entered in a raffle to win a game ball signed by Brett Favre.
Bill was able to stock up on Tee Shirts and Hats and pins which are not available, naturally, in the Bay Area.
