We got into Munich late but our hostel was well equipped with tourist info and we planned our time here based around some of the many tours that were available. Our first tour was to do with the Third Reich and Munichs role in the rise to power of Hitler and the Nazi party. We walked around many areas and saw places where Hitler began to push his ideas around. We also were able to see the sites of main Nazi offices and parading grounds and it was really interesting for us to get some more background info on how someone with ideas like Hitlers was able to rise to power and how a country sat back and allowed it to happen.

Our second tour changed the topic to one that is a lot more fun - beer! Munich is famous for its beer halls and we thought it might be a good way to see them by going on a 'beer challenge'. We met our fellow drinkers and got our first 'free' beer from a convenience store at the station (we all felt like bums drinking on the train). We then went to the first beer hall and because David wanted his own litre of beer Meagan had to have her own as well. We got rushed out of this beer hall so we had to drink quickly and then after a few more halls and a few more litres we were all feeling pretty happy. At around 2am we stumbled our way back to the hostel and fell asleep promptly.

The next morning was the worst we have ever felt. We both couldnt really get out of bed without feeling like we were going to pass out and we had to get out of the hostel before check out. Somehow we did this and then just sat in the common room talking and moaning to some Canadians we met the night before. Instead of seeing more of Munich we sat until we had to catch our bus (we may have said we will never drink again).

Apart from beer and Nazis, Munich is a really beautiful city with some amazing reconstructed buildings and streets. And the strudel is nice too!
