We reached Luton Airport and JH bought a prepaid card for 20 pounds to call his friend, ZH. However we could not get through to him and had to resort to using auto-roaming service instead to call him. It was really very cold and we took a 50 min train ride down to London Bridge station to meet ZH.
He brought us to take two tube service and one bus before we could reach his apartment near Greenwich. He had kindly bought a sofa bed for us! We were cold, tired and hungry! We went to a nearby Chinese eating house to have wanton soup, roasted duck rice and fried bee hoon. Opened by a Chinese Vietnamese, the food and price was of reasonable standard.
We intended to stay at his place for two days before we set off for Edinburgh. Since it would be weekend, ZH would drive us around to other nearly cities. We were surprised he was also not too familiar with the London roads despite staying there for a few months! With JH around, he was more willing to venture into the city and other areas.
He brought us to see the Tower Bridge and London Castle which was huge and majestic! However JH policy was not to enter any museum that required entrance fees. So we just took a few photos and we left. We did not have the chance to go close to the Tower Bridge as it started raining! We strolled along the beautiful St James Park which led us to the Buckingham Palace. From there, we moved through the Green Park which was indeed green and well maintained, to the Trafalgar Square and China Town. We went to this Four Season Chinese Restaurant that served superb Cantonese roasted Duck!
Never did we expect to be stranded in London as we missed our flight! It really cost a bomb and it was a rather distraught experience! Luckily we spent our extra day visiting the Greenwich Maritime Museum which is a must see must visit spot! JH hated the London traffic, closely behind Shanghai's! It was a total nightmare to drive in London city at night without the GPS!
