After picking up Luke, our hitcher, we drove for around 4 hours, and found out that Luke was on the way to Magnetic Island for a full moon party on the weekend to celebrate his 21st birthday, which was the previous day.

We turned off for the Wallaman falls, which are Australias highest, and wound through low farm land before heading uphill to the top of the Gorge. The lookout had a picnic area, where we had lunch, and monitor lizards running up the trees (singular).

The views out over the gorge were magnificent, and the falls were superb, at nearly 280 metres from top to bottom of the pool. The noise was immense, and we took a short walk to get a different perspective of the falls, but decided not to walk the 3 Kms to the base as time was getting on and we had to meet Joe (from Wadonga) in Townsville.

We left the lookout and drove back down the hill and across the farm land, back onto highway one, the Bruce Highway would you believe it. We arrived in Townsville around 1700 hours, and dropped Luke off, before phoning Joe Wadonga and arranging to meet him. We met up and we followed him to his new flat, which was very nice indeed, with air-con. and a pool. Joe and Joe went for a swim while Tracey did about a months worth of washing. We chilled out, and Joe Wadonga went to pick up some take away, and came back with Red Rooster chicken, mash and veg. very nice. We had a few beers and chatted before an earlyish night. When we woke Joe W. had already left for work so we sorted ourselves out before setting off again. thank you Joe for letting us stay, much appreciated.

We drove via The Strand, the main street on the beach front, and Went to the Aquarium, before setting off for Proserpine, near Airlie Beach, which was just a stop off on the way to Finch Hatton Gorge. We got to Proserpine late, and so had a meal at a Hotel before parking at a site and going to bed. When we got up, I had forgotten to tell Tracey about the 1000 hrs checkout, which was a daft thing to forget, as we missed the chance of showers here...
