Brisbane: Just Another City to Us

I don't mean for this title to be meanspirited towards Brisbane.  It's not a bad city at all.  In fact we read that it's been named one of the most liveable cities in all of Australia.  If we were looking for a place to live, we might consider it, but for a visit, we were happy to just stay a few days.

Brisbane has some nice riverfront walks.  One of the highlights is called South Bank.  It was developed for Expo 88 (held to celebrate Australia's bicentennial).  It's a big parkland area with lots of neat spaces.  The best is called Streets Beach, a recreated tropical lagoon set right beside the river.  There were lots of people "beachin' it" that day, but unfortunately we didn't know it was there or else we would have brought our "togs" and joined them.

If we were looking for a place to live, we might consider it, but for a visit, we were happy to just stay a few days.

Instead, we decided to jump on the river taxi (so cheap, just $5.00 each for unlimited travel) and see the sights from the water (just like we did in Sydney).

The next day we decided to try and find a beach to laze the day away on.  Not knowing where a good one was we just started driving.  Eventually we found one, but the weather was much crummier than it was in the city.  Not beach weather at all!  Luckily nearby we found a movie theater with matinee prices.  So instead of laying on a beach, we matched Mission Impossible 3 and Scary Movie 4 (go see the first, don't bother with the second).
