As I travelled through Provinces in Canada and the States of USA, I have found the Information Centres or Vistor Centres or Welcome Centres - they seem to change names - are very helpful.
I sometimes think that they have a kind of quota for people to service as they request the signing of the guest book.
As walk in they quickly ask if they can of assistance. Some of my requests are not travel oriented. For example in Moncton NB they arranged a barber for me. She phoned and checked on if they were open and if there was a line up. This extra service without asking.
Anyway, the Welcome Centre just as I entered South Carolina was no exception. They phone to check a motel room for me and provided a discount coupon.
