Arrived on a Saturday to Salamanca, Spain.  Mysterious medieval town with gothic touches, very clean and bubbling with energy.  Found great accommodation near the heart of the old town and went straight out to feel the Saturday night vibes in the Plaza Mayor, the main square, and yep, as we thought, it was a hive of activity, chocablock full of young university students and tourists.  It was a beautiful clear night so the outdoor restaurants were packed.  Our little family walk back to the hotel prompted memories of times not too long ago - nightclubs pumping out their tunes with bouncers at the doors, line-ups to get in, drunken party goers everywhere, mainly young uni students out to forget about their assignments no doubt - know what that´s all about!!!

Over the next few days we´re sure we managed to clock up another 20 km on the pedometer because we walked and walked and walked, checking out all the sites that we could on foot - the cathedral, university buildings, museums and the old Roman bridge.  The architecture was magnificent, amazing and beautiful.

A porter at the hotel recommended a tapas bar for us and boy oh boy - this was the best recommendation we´ve had:  Bambu.  Not easy to access with a pram - we had to lift it down about 30 steps but once inside and deciphering the menu, some lovely elderly Spanish gentlemen who couldn´t speak a word of English managed to recommend a few special dishes.  We tried them and they were the best.  We ended up sitting at the bar for quite a long time, especially once Jagger fell asleep, trying more tapas and drinking.

The Bambu tapas bar was so good we went back there the next day and had the same but this time we met a lovely American couple, Donna and Joe, who we ended up eating and drinking with, continuing out into the Plaza where Jagger could run around and make friends with the pidgeons, dogs, other babies in prams and anyone who would give him attention - very social little boy our son!
