We returned to Bangkok with a very excited Lizzy who was reunited with her fella Claudio after four months apart and we celebrated with a very extravagant dinner and evening out at the Bed Supper Club.

And then... we shopped and ... we shopped and... there followed a week that was swiftly written off in the acursed budget book! We climbed endless escalators, browsed through aisle after aisle of trendy designer knock offs and jostled our way through the heaving mass of consumers - as if we liked shopping in the first place. But presents were bought for all (as well as our selves of course) and we packed off a large box of goodies on the slow boat to greet us on our return home.

We made up for our spending by feasting solely on street food - fruit for pennies, and green vegetable curry and incredible phad thai for about 30 pence each - mmmmmn.

We had a brilliant night out dancing like teenagers to London's DJ Bukem, walked our way around the eminently photogenic China town, said hi to the Big golden budha and got lost in the glitering halls and temples of the Royal Palace.

We never quite got over the 'more western than western' feel of Bangkok but we left having enjoyed a wonderful, bustling and vibrant city and headed by train to Thailands eastern boarder and on to Cambodia.
