Kansas is Corny
From Looking for America in WaKeeney, United States on Aug 18 '06
We woke up to another rainy day, which meant no Pike's Peak. We did, however, go out to Garden of the Gods. This area of natural rock formations has some great trails for hiking and some good photo ops. However, due to the rain, we pretty much just took in the sights from the car. However, we did happen upon an especially unusual formation known as "Balance Rock". This was a neat place to take some photos, so be sure to check them out here.
Next we crossed the state line into Kansas, the Sunflower State, and that's just what we found! We stopped to find the local information center, only to stumble across the World's Largest Painting and Easel. The painting is Van Gogh's sunflowers, one of six erected around the world.

We're staying in Wakeeney (which should really be called Wa"teeney"), a tiny town in western Kansas in which we are the most interesting thing.
