Killarney
From Europe 2007 in Killarney, Ireland on Jun 13 '07
On arrival we found our hotel easily. The luggage is becoming a problem and it is from not repacking adequatley as most of us have not been shopping. Family please take note everything is too expensive to be shopping. On our first night we were very travel weary so we took a drink and snack meal in the bar of the hotel. The decor is very interesting they have cleverly mixed period and art decor. the colours are a mix of silver metalic, rich purples and brown velvets with splashes of green and white marble floors. the hotel appears to have a lot of tour buses with tourists from many different places. One can hear a lot of languages. The staff also come from many eastern european countries.
Day 2 and we embarked early on a trip around the famous "Ring of Kerry" today Kevin drove and I navigated. The weather was very inclement but it did improve, Jenny reminded me that one does not come to Irelnad for the weather. The Ring of Kerry was very picturesque and the scenery was very similar to the South Island of New Zealand. We stopped for lunch by the sea near a golf course that Tiger Woods has played. The beach was pleasant but it was very cold, again like our South Island. We had a small rest and then wandered into the village for dinner. Faye and I had seen a restaurant that looked good from the outside. We were able to get a table and had a very pleasant dinner with a fine french red. An early night was called for.
Day 3 we decided to have a rest day today I have been using the gym at our hotels this morning I thought I would rather go out for a run/ walk. After fighting my way through the throng of tour bus people I reached the front door to feel a distinct chill and rain, back to the gym I went for a bike ride. While there I met an American couple from Alabama who are here with friends playing golf. After breakfast we all wandered down to the village and looked for a hairdresser so the boys could have haircuts. On the way we stopped at very quaint antique store and made a purchase each. The lady who owned it was very nice and has cousins in New Zealand in Christchurch, her mother opened the store 70 years ago and she now runs it. Boys had haircuts and we had lunch. We found a bar that was showing the tri nations game between Australia and South Africa so stopped to watch. The game is still on but we are going for a horse and cart ride soon. sorry no photos yet but I can't download them here.
