A white Christmas in the Heart of Bavaria
From My Study Abroad in England in Fussen, Germany on Dec 24 '07
- Got up had breakfast
- Went to the castle/palace Hogenschwagnau
- We took the bus out to where the
castles are. Only this castle was open today so we decided to do that one.
The only way to visit the castle is on a guided tour, which is fine with
me. They had tours that were in English so that was nice.
- The guide was really cool. He spoke
very good English. It was funny because he had these short but informative
sentences and then would leave you hanging for a while before he made
another comment. That was good though, because it gave you more of a
chance to actually look at the rooms and think about the things he said.
- I liked the size of this castle. It
wasn’t took big and you could actually imagine hoe people lived in it. It
was just the royal
family’s summer get a way but none-the-less very extravagant. It had this
massive paintings on all the walls, painted directly on to the walls. We
couldn’t figure out how they stayed in such nice shape until the guide
explained about the central heating.
- After the tour we went into a few of
the souvenir shops.
- The we walked the 3.1 km back to
fussen. I’m so glad we did that, it was amazing. All the trees were
completely covered in frost crystals and it was a truly White Christmas.
- Read for a while in the little cafe with a latte to drink
- Went and walked around Fussen
- Ate at Nordsee, fish sandwich
- Josie called pretty much everyone
she knew
- I took a nice long hot bubble bath.
Love it!
- I opened my Christmas present from
my family.
- It was a white gold sandal necklace
with 13 tiny diamonds. Mom gave it to me so that I remember where I came
from and come home soon.
- I called home, talked to Heather,
Dad, Mom, Gigi
