We were to leave Myknons for the city of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece at 9:40 PM Sunday.  Instead, the ferry was late, not arriving til after 11 PM.  We both slept surprisingly well sprawled over 4 pullman seats each.  There was some confusion when we bought our tickets (language issue) as to when it docked.  We'd thought it a 12 hour journey -- instead it was almost 20 hours!  We had just enough food and water to save us from buying expensive ferry food.  Good thing we'd both had gyros and spinach pie the night before.

We arrived in Thessaloniki a little before 7 PM and found our budget hotel without too much difficulty.  The Hotel Akropol, while a little dodgy and rundown, was alright and we really enjoyed having our own room after all those nights being outside.  The location was pretty good, too, with a supermarket and bakery within a 5 minutes walk.

The next morning, we started our guidebook's walking tour, which pretty much took us past every Byzantine church as well as Galerius' Arch.  We also went and saw the White Tower.

We found food and restaurants were much more affordable here than either Athens or the islands.  We went and had a nice dinner of Greek salad and moussaka, washed down with ouzo.

This was our last night in Thessaloniki before we take a bus west to the base of Mt. Olympus.
