The Bastille and the Bubbles

The Bastille is an old fort that hovers over one of my favorite alpine towns, Grenoble. The fort itself is far too crumbled to be worth much, but the experience of getting there and seeing the view is what brings the masses. From the Bastille you can see all of Grenoble, the neighboring French Alps, and other alpine villages. One time I came on a cloudy day, but as soon as I reached the top, sun rays pierced through soupy clouds and created a spotlight that only shone on Grenoble. It was if nature was putting on a show just for me. To even remember the humble beauty of this area, almost breaks my heart.

To get to there you can trek up winding walkways or you can pay $2.50 Euros and ride the bubbles. Please imagine a ski lift but instead of a bench, there is a round plastic bubble. And if you have ever dreamed of what it is like to float above a city in a big plastic bubble, than this attraction is definitely for you.

I suggest you ride the bubbles to go up to the Bastille and than use the pathways to walk down. The views to, from, and coming back down from the Bastille leave me speechless. Every time I went, I found something new and amazing. There is fun to be had by everyone regardless of age, so I urge you to go out and explore this wonderful marvel.
