Day 3 - Barcelona, Spain - June 5
From Western Europe Peregrination in Barcelona, Spain on Jun 03 '07
At 8:30 AM our alarm went off to warn us of the free breakfast that was awaiting us...it was shut off and we slept until one o´clock.
We took much needed showers and headed out into beautiful Barcelona and also realized the most advantageous location of our Hostel. We lost our itinerary in all the madness yesterday and had to wing it. We started walking along the water near our hostel and found Las Ramblas, the most bustling street in Barcelona. On this street, we met some nice people from Israel and Florida. We also found lunch at Subway because it was cheap. We also found the location of the internet cafe which we are now typing from. After lunch, we made our way over to the Cathedral and made our way down to the beach that surrounds Barcelona. After walking for 5 hours at this point, we decided it would be nice to have some Sangria. We found the closest grocery store and bought a bottle, found a nice place to sit, and used our handy fold up neon green plastic mugs. We sat for awhile to talk, people watch, and take it all in amongst all the beautiful architecture. We headed over to Taller de Tapas where we had made reservations for dinner. We knew we wanted to try tapas because we are in Spain but of course we didn´t have a clue what they were or how to eat them. They ordered and the waitress brought out bread. Being Americans, we ate the bread not knowing it is a part of the Tapas. Oops! (For those who don´t know, Tapas consist of bread and your choice of many toppings.) Hence, we had to buy more of the bread. After dinner we took a nice stroll around Barcelona to window shop and absorb more of the awesome culture and architecture. Around 9 o´clock we arrived back at our Hostel to rest. We plan on going out tonight.
