Amsterdam in a Day

Christy & Karin has visited no places in Amsterdam

So Thursday we said goodbye to our Aunt and Uncle and headed out to the big city. The train ride was about an hour and a half total with one transfer, but cost us about €15 each. Today we realized we would be spending a bit more money then we would usually budget, but we have only one day here, so it would be worth it.

FIrstly, we headed to the Flying Pig Hostel downtown. We are staying at their other location in Noordwijk, about forty minutes drive from Amsterdam. But we had all our luggage and needed somewhere to put it for the day, so we dropped it off there. The atmosphere of the place was really neat - low lit lights, throw rugs and pillows on the floor, a little bar and DJ, and of course twenty-somethings enjoying Amsterdams... recreational activities...

After dropping off our stuff we headed over to the Rijks Museum, which cost Karin €10, but didn't cost Christy anything because they let 18 and unders in for free. The security at this place was compairable to the airport. All our bags were scanned, we were scanned, we wern't allowed to take the bags into the actual place after they were scanned, they had to be checked. Overall, we were not impressed with the Museum. Its half closed but they still charged full price, and it was very, very overcrowded.

Next was the Van Gough Museum, which cost another â‚¬10 each. Again, this was overcrowded and we found that the Museum didnt contain any of Van Goughs popular works. However, we did learn a lot about the artist himself, which was interesting and depressing.

After that we grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed over to Anne Franks house. God there are a lot of tourists in this city! Once again, overcrowded, and €7.50 each to get in, but seeing the house itself was worth the cost. Overall we enjoyed this one.

And next we headed to the essential Hash Museum and Sex Museum, and took an evening stroll through the Red District.

Overall it was a very long and very expensive day, but we enjoyed it all very much.

No pictures yet, they will be added later.

Hello, girls. It sounds like you're having a lovely time. It's really cool to be able to "follow" you around on your travels. I found the link for your blog, so you can ignore the email I sent a couple of weeks ago asking for the link.
