Everest Panorama Resort
From India, Nepal and Tibet in Daman, Nepal on Apr 29 '07
It was a narrow winding road up the mountain to reach the Everest Panorama Resort at about 2400m. Chitwan is at around 320m, so it was a nice change in altitude. We traded in the humidity and weird bugs for fresh mountain air and amazing views.
The mountains are captivating to me because they are so expansive and you can see for miles over other mountain tops and through valleys, giving a sense of openness. Whereas, in the jungle, you are constantly surrounded by foliage and you can only see what's in front of you, not giving you the full idea of its vastness.
To conclude our adventurous tour of trekking, rafting and jungle safari, we spent a relaxing afternoon at the resort soaking in the warm sun and the Himalayas. From this viewpoint, one can see a 400km panorama of the Himalayas which includes 10 of the world's highest mountains. We were very fortunate to have a clear afternoon where we could see the mountains fairly well considering they are over 100km away.
An early morning sunrise over the mountains created a beautiful silhouette of the Himalayas as the sunlight reflected off the snowcapped peaks slowly altering their colors. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. Yup, definitely a mountain girl.
Well, it was a sad drive back to Kathmandu as our adventure came to an end and we returned back to the hectic, polluted city. Only a few more days here before I head to Tibet!
