Ramshackle hostel, sticky humid weather, rubbish strewn beach, open drains running onto the beach. Good soup at Lunes del Norte.
We got off the bus along a highway with two other travelers, Charnene (kiwi) and Andy (aus) were excellent company and we exchanged stories over several beers. We shared a taxi into town and ended up staying at the same place - Boarding House Sara. After traipsing round a lot of shit hostels we opted for the cheapest shit hostel. The place was literally falling down around our ears. The shower was just a pipe, the toilets didn´t really work and when you turned the tap on lots of water came out over everywhere except the tap. Luckily the bedroom was beautiful (see picture).

On our second night in Tela we found ourselves in a tiny bar with some wired locals. The bar area was sectioned off with steel bars and the drinks were served through a little hatch. They also had an enormous juke box blaring out classic Spanish Soft Rock. Heroes del Silencio were an obvious favourite as the locals stopped talking and started playing air guitar in unison, jaws clenched and eyes closed. We´d have left earlier but we were being talked at and forced to drink the local gut fuck moonshine. This we were told makes you muy fuerte (strong) but we strongly suspected that these guys were fueled by cocaine. Although the beers were only 30p a bottle we decided to leave when they started talking about shooting the police - apparently for our protection.

Despite making so many new friends all four of us scarpered the next morning.
