Saturday – The first day of my three week break from work. I awoke feeling a mixture of nervousness and excitement, then proceeded to waste a few hours playing computer games, consequently I wasn’t ready when David and Naomi came to help me pack ! Somehow they managed to get me going, luckily I had written a list of things to do and I soon got into the swing of organising myself for the big adventure. We went to meet Jonathan, Henri and Jeorge for a celebratory lunch, in part for Jonathan’s 30^th birthday and part to mark the culmination of several months frantic fund raising, which would enable me to travel to a part of the world that I had always dreamed of visiting. Lunch was good and I bathed in the joy of being with my family at this special time for me, of course I drank too much wine and this didn’t help when we had to return to packing ! Finally David and Naomi departed and I was left alone to contemplate what lay ahead the next day. I could have attended Becki’s 30^th birthday party but didn’t trust myself to come home at a reasonable time and sober enough to ensure that the journey next day wasn’t marred by a severe hangover, I was already frightened enough as I don’t like flying and I had approximately 11 hours of flying ahead of me.
