Fish and guts

Howdy
Who knew that 4 months of backpacking the world wouldn't prepare me for this. Imagine, if you will, a large plastic bin made into a backpack with a sprayer. Now imagine filling this 3 gallon backpack with fish guts and kelp, YUM! Today I sprayed the entire farm with this tasty concoction. Thanks to a leaky lid in this contraption my back was kept cool by the delicous mixture as it sloshed all over my back. Welcome to being a farmer! Yale Creek Ranch is nestled in some very pretty mountains, and surrounded by a river and a creek. The nearest store is miles away. Deep in the ground is sulfur, and lots of it, which leaves the water smelling pretty funky. I have the feeling that at this moment I smell of rotten fish and eggs, HOORAY! The farm has a sweet dog named Sadie. Earlier today I came back to the house to mix up more slurry when I saw Sadie face to face with an adorable lil' chipmunk. She picked it up by the tail and dropped it again, the chipmunk did nothing. "I have to save the lil' dude" I thought as I started chasing the dog around the yard whilst a squeaking rodent bounced around in his mouth. For some reason in my mind I thought if maybe I sprayed Sadie she would drop the poor creature, not so much. THe dog probably stinks to high hell now. Finally I grabbed the dog and the chipmunk escaped up a tree. YAY!Then back to spraying. The other intern, Sam, came up to me and said; "You look like a ghostbuster"
"Maybe I am."
My first day of work we transplanted King Richard leeks. I dug in the soil, giggling every few minutes "Well why don't you plug him up?" Haha I'm a dork, I know.
I'm eating fresh food that I either picked, or Sam did. I thought that I would be staying in a Yurt, but my gender has gotten me the apartment and that is kind of awesome, sorry Sam. And the best part? Free good coffee, tea, and other fresh delicousness. Keep checking back for more tales.
Love Katie
