Georgetown
From Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia on Dec 10 '06
We got a ferry from Langkawi and the ferry was supposed to take 3 hours but with about an hour to go and one of the engines failed so we arrived a couple of hours later than expected. Jamie wasn't too bothered because they were showing 'Rambo III' so he spent most of the time watching that. We arrived at 7.30pm and met an english couple from Bucks called Alison and Neil so we shared a cab with them. Our room was a bit like a cell but it was very cheap at 18R per night.
The following day we had a walk around Georgetown, which isn't that impressive. There isn't much to see and a lot of things seemed closed down even the tourist information office! So we decided to head to Penang Hill and spoke to a new zealand couple at the bus stop so we decided to share a taxi with them. At the hill it was really packed so we bought our tickets and had to wait around for a while. We had to get a tram to the top, which was really slow and seemed to take forever!! There isn't all that much to see at the top, but we went to the aviary and saw some parrots, mccaws and hornbills and some of them were really noisy!I was taking a photo of one of them and he squawked and made me jump, so it came out a bit wonky! We found the best restaurant ever, it was all indian food and it was sooo cheap, so was fantastic value!
The following day we decided to get a bus to the botanical garden, which was recommended to us so we decided to find out what bus to get as it would be cheaper given that there were only the two of us.
